About
The Woodcock Nature Preserve, located on 100 acres of prairie and woodlands, is a wildlife preserve in Athens County. The land was initially maintained by David and Helen Horn who went on to establish the area as a conservancy, and founded Woodcock Nature Preserve in 2008. Currently, the preserve is sustained by a team of board members and dedicated community volunteers with a mission to restore the local ecologies of the land.
The Woodcock Nature Preserve is a great place to see a variety of birds, plants, and other wildlife. With the opening of The Friendship Trail in 2022 visitors can take a 5k hike through the woods and prairies, with amazing views of the Chinese Chestnut Orchard bordering the preserve. Open year-round, the Woodcock Nature Preserve is a great way to explore and learn about all the local plants and wildlife that Southeast Ohio is home to.
